Annual Sessions of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. Sign-up now. The Sessions will take place, in a hybrid format, Wednesday, July 23 – Sunday, July 27 at Cheyney University’s campus and online, offering a space for Friends to worship in community and practice our faith.
What is Sessions? Annual Sessions is one of the oldest Quaker traditions! Today, all over the world, yearly meetings gather once a year to bring together members and attenders from their local meetings. We call them “Sessions” because meeting for worship with attention to the business of the Yearly Meeting is central to these times together. Continuing Sessions are our one-day events on the second Saturday of November and March, where we attend to the continuing business of the Yearly Meeting and enjoy fellowship across generations. During all these times we ask: What is God’s big idea for PYM Friends?
Prior to Annual Session, Friends will have the opportunity to join virtually for three preparatory activities:
Friday, June 27: Join us for a session with PYM’s representatives to our sister organizations; AFSC, FCNL, Friends Peace Teams, and FWCC, who will share more about their work and collaborations.
Saturday, June 28: A session highlighting PYM Collaboratives is being offered; the collaboratives include Addressing Racism, Eco-Justice, First Contact Reconciliation, Friends Ending Gun Violence, and the Spiritual Formation Collaborative.
Wednesday, July 16: Budget Q&A with Tom Zemaitis, PYM Treasurer, and the Incoming CFO, David Park. They will offer an overview of the budget with be presented for approval at Annual Sessions.
22 April to 25 October Tree Planting. Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM) has set a goal of having PYM Quakers plant 381 trees in honor of William Penn’s 381st Birthday between 4/22 (Earth Day) and 10/25 (PYM Climate Witness Thread Gathering and a day after Penn’s birthdate). To share your accomplishment and get your tree(s) counted, visit 381 Trees Information. This project is part of a PYM goal to reduce meetings’ and Quakers’ carbon footprint.
Peace Vigil at the Bloomsburg town fountain every Wednesday at 5:00 pm. Now is a critical time to let Quaker voices speak for peace.
PYM Connect. This is a NEW ONLINE Quaker platform intended to be a welcoming space for individual Friends and Friends groups and Meetings to come together, exchange ideas, and support one another.
