Our Quaker Faith
Members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) believe that a spark of the Divine exists in all people, and is to be honored.
Together we seek the spiritual presence that Quakers may call the Divine, God, Spirit, Truth, Inner Light, Inward Teacher, Living Waters, or other terms. That presence is beyond words, yet reveals itself to all who listen.
Together we strive to act with compassion, care, love, and respect for all persons.
Together we seek personal spiritual growth, within in a diverse, just, inclusive and loving community where all feel safe, valued, and cared for.
Together we work toward peace, social justice, equality, and care for our earth and all its inhabitants.
Our guiding principle is love.
What is Meeting for Worship?
Friends (Quakers) across the world vary in how we worship. At Millville Friends Meeting, like many others, we call this Meeting for Worship. We begin our worship in silence, waiting on the Spirit to move us to speak. Anyone may speak if they feel led to share a spiritual message. In some Meetings for Worship several people speak, in others we spend the hour in silent worship and prayer.
When do we meet?
Our Meeting for Worship begins at 10 am every First Day (Sunday), and lasts about an hour. At its conclusion, we introduce ourselves and greet each other. On the second First Day of each month, our Meeting for Worship is in hybrid format – we gather in person and online. On most Sundays we have an adult discussion or a social hour from about 11:15 to about noon. You are welcome to join us for that also.
Where can you find us?
Our historic Quaker Meetinghouse is at 351 East Main Street in Millville, across Main Street from Millville High School.
You can access our parking by turning onto South Chestnut Street, then take the first driveway to the left. Park somewhere near the top of the driveway slope, and enter the Meetinghouse side door, where there is a small porch.
That entrance is wheelchair accessible. Inside that door, just go straight ahead to our worship room on the far side of the building.
You will probably meet Friends on the way.
Restrooms are near the side door entrance.
